Ram Cummins Mishimoto Transmission Coolers Breakdown!
Both the 5.9L Cummins and 6.7L Cummins Ram 2500 and 3500 trucks are able to tow heavy right out off the showroom floor and make a whole bunch of power and torque with relatively few modifications, but doing either (or even both) generates a lot of heat. That heat can lead you at best waiting on the side of the road waiting for your Ram's transmission to cool down and at worst can hurt your transmission to the point where you'll need to get it replaced. That's why our good friends over at Mishimoto have put together a full lineup of drop-in transmission coolers that can help your Ram's transmission stay in a safe temperature range, even if you're towing extremely heavy uphill or if your truck is throwing down a bunch of extra power that's causing high operating temperatures.

Best of all, Mishimoto now has transmission cooler coverage for every Ram 2500 and 3500 from 1994 all the way to the 2024 Ram model years, so that no matter what Ram Cummins truck you own, Mishimoto has you covered. Mishimoto's transmission coolers feature a high-quality construction and extremely easy installation on most models so you get excellent levels of cooling for your Ram's transmission to keep your temperatures in a safe operating range, even if you're pushing your Ram extremely hard. We recently posted a video on our Tier One Transmission YouTube channel about all the reasons why we like Mishimoto's transmission coolers, and you can check it out below:

About Ram Cummins Mishimoto Transmission Coolers

Mishimoto's transmission coolers for the 5.9L Cummins and 6.7L Cummins Rams are some of Tier One's favorite upgrades. These transmission coolers really do the job of keeping transmission temperatures anywhere from 10-20° cooler than the factory transmission cooler all while being extremely easy to install and pretty budget-friendly, considering that they can help save you and your truck from roasted clutches or other expensive transmission component failures that have much heftier price tags. Mishimoto's transmission coolers are much more efficient and effective at dissipating heat than stock, helping to keep your transmission temperatures in a safe range, even if you're yanking a big trailer uphill at low speeds in hot weather. That being said, all of Mishimoto's transmission coolers for the various model year Ram trucks are all a little bit different, so we decided to give you a breakdown.

Mishimoto's 2019-2024 Ram 2500 & 3500 6.7L Cummins Transmission Cooler Features

The 2019-2024 Ram 6.7L Cummins trucks may be some of the most powerful Rams yet, and they throw out a bunch of heat, especially when tuned and towing heavy. The Mishimoto Transmission Cooler for 2019-2024 Ram 6.7L Cummins 2500 & 3500 trucks isn't much larger on its face than the stock transmission cooler, but when you turn it on its side, you'll see that this is one chonky boy. The 2019-2024 Ram Mishimoto Transmission Cooler has a 64% thicker core than the factory transmission cooler, as well as three additional rows that give it more cooling surface area for your truck. Despite being a lot thicker than the factory transmission cooler, the Mishimoto transmission cooler still installs right in place of the factory transmission cooler, and only requires a minimum of additional hardware to get it installed. The 2019-2024 Ram Mishimoto Transmission cooler features a tube-fin design that may not be as efficient as a bar-plate design, but does block less airflow from hitting your Ram's condenser or radiator.

Mishimoto's 2015-2018 Ram 2500 & 3500 6.7L Cummins Transmission Cooler Features

The Mishimoto transmission cooler for the 2015-2018 Ram Cummins trucks is absolutely massive, and since those 2015-2018 Ram 6.7L Cummins put out a lot of heat, all that surface area comes in handy. The 2015-2018 Ram 2500 & 3500 6.7L Cummins Mishimoto Transmission Cooler features a whopping 112% increase in core volume, 237% increase in fin area, and 226% increase in fluid capacity which allows it to dispel a TON of heat from your Ram's transmission fluid extremely effectively. The 2015-2018 Ram transmission cooler offers huge levels of cooling in a package that installs right in place of the stock transmission cooler. While this transmission cooler takes up a ton of room behind your Ram's grille, but since it uses a tube-fin design, plenty of air still makes it through to your Ram's condenser and radiator.

Mishimoto's 2013-2014 Ram 2500 & 3500 6.7L Cummins Transmission Cooler Features

The 2013-2014 Ram 6.7L Mishimoto Transmission Cooler is new to Mishimoto's transmission cooler lineup for the Dodge Rams, where there was previously a gap here. The new 2013-2014 Ram 2500 & 3500 6.7L Cummins Mishimoto Transmission Cooler is big and features a huge surface area and larger internal fluid volume than the stock transmission cooler, giving your Ram excellent levels of cooling capability, even when you're ripping around hard or towing extremely heavy loads. The Mishimoto Transmission Cooler for 2013-2014 Ram 6.7L Cummins trucks features 82% greater core volume than stock along with a 112% increase in fin surface area and 1.34-quart increase in fluid volume than the stock transmission cooler. The huge increase in size doesn't mean install is a pain, and the Mishimoto transmission cooler drops right into place of stock and its tube-fine design allows for proper levels of airflow to your Ram's condenser and radiator.

Mishimoto's 2010-2012 Ram 2500 & 3500 6.7L Cummins Transmission Cooler Features

The 2010-2012 Ram 2500 & 3500 6.7L Cummins trucks have a unique transmission cooler setup where the stock cooler is integrated into the A/C condenser. Needless to say, this isn't the most efficient transmission cooler configuration in the world, and unfortunately, it does make installing an aftermarket transmission cooler a bit more of a pain. That being said, that hasn't stopped Mishimoto from making it happen. The Mishimoto Transmission Cooler for 2010-2012 Ram 2500 & 3500 6.7L Cummins trucks offers improved cooling over the stock integrated cooler, and if you also grab the 2010-2012 Ram 6.7L Cummins Mishimoto Bypass Line Kit, you can avoid a bunch of the usual hassles with messing with the condenser and condenser lines when you go to install the transmission cooler.

2003-2009 Ram 2500 & 3500 6.7L & 5.9L Cummins Mishimoto Transmission Coolers Features

The 2003-2009 Rams not only create a lot of heat, but their cowled and slatted grilles also don't allow for the best airflow in the world, which hurts the stock transmission cooler's already fairly limited effectiveness. Mishimoto's Transmission Cooler for 2003-2009 Ram 2500 & 3500 5.9L & 6.7L Cummins trucks makes up for airflow limitations by throwing size and surface area at the problem. The 2003-2009 Ram 2500 & 3500 5.9L & 6.7L Cummins Mishimoto Transmission Cooler absolutely dwarfs the factory cooler with a 212% increase in core volume which leads to a whopping 244% increase in fluid capacity. The massive size of Mishimoto's transmission cooler practically guarantees a drop in your Ram's transmission temperatures, and is the perfect upgrade for any 2003-2009 Ram Cummins that's going to get pushed hard and tow extremely heavy loads. Despite its size, the Mishimoto Ram transmission cooler's tube-fin design still allows adequate levels of air to flow through it and hit your truck's condenser and radiator.

1994-2002 Ram 2500 & 3500 5.9L Cummins Mishimoto Transmission Cooler Features

The 1994-2002 Ram 5.9L Cummins trucks may not be throwing down as much power as later models, but they still have the ability to generate a whole heck of lot of heat and get their transmission fluid piping hot. The grille doesn't allow for a ton of airflow, and the stock transmission cooler is almost wafer-thin which compounds the problem. The Mishimoto Transmission Cooler for 1994-2002 Ram 2500 & 3500 5.9L Cummins trucks is a massive improvement over stock, and will help keep your Ram cool, no matter how hard you're pushing it on or off the road. The 1994-2002 Ram 2500 & 3500 5.9L Cummins Mishimoto Transmission Cooler has a 116% bigger core than the stock cooler with a 134% increase in fin surface area and a 141% increase in overall fluid volume. The Mishimoto transmission cooler's increase in fluid volume and surface area gives it awesome heat dissipation properties that will help keep your Ram's transmission fluid temperatures in check, no matter your application. Like the rest of Mishimoto's transmission coolers, this version uses a tube-fin design that allows more than adequate airflow back into your Ram's radiator.

Conclusion

If it isn't obvious, we here at Tier One are pretty big fans of Mishimoto's transmission coolers for the Ram Cummins. These transmission coolers combine fairly easy installations, awesome price points, and excellent performance all in one package. We install a ton of these on customer trucks to keep transmission temperatures at a safe level, and Mishimoto's transmission coolers are extremely popular here in Arizona due to our high temperatures. Even if you're in a cooler climate, Mishimoto's transmission coolers are an excellent upgrade for your Ram and can help expand the lifespan of your truck's transmission, which is always a good thing.
