68RFE Tuneless Tow-All Transmission: High Pressure Without the Tune
All HD Tuneless Tow-All 68RFE transmissions are designed to be a step above the factory unit in every area. When designing and testing this transmission, the core driver was to allow you to
tow more with no fear of transmission failure. We start by upgrading the torque converter with better friction material for lock-up and a
Billet cover to prevent flex when the clutch applies. Next, we move to the transmission case, replacing all clutches with higher energy frictions to handle increased torque. A key upgrade in every Tier One 68RFE build is the
4C billet retainer—a part that inevitably fails on stock units. We top this off with a deep pan for superior cooling. However, the true success of this transmission lies in its completely reworked valve body and pump system.
Pump & Main Case Upgrades for Maximum Durability
Drop-In Protection & Efficiency: High pressure requires high protection. Our system addresses hydraulic weak points directly at the pump source. We utilize a new drop-in torque converter limit valve system engineered to fit both early and late model pumps.
Anti-Ballooning Bypass: The kit features a built-in converter clutch apply pressure bypass. This critical update prevents the torque converter from "ballooning" under elevated line pressure, protecting your drivetrain investment. The pump is flat sanded and checked for proper clearance and better-than-OE valve function.
Main Case: All parts are cleaned and inspected for damage or cracks. We install new seals and gaskets throughout, spec and check all bearings and washers for proper endplay, and verify all planets for damage. The case is air checked for leaks to clutch packs, and we install a
TIG welded output shaft for maximum durability.
Tuneless Valve Body: 210 PSI Mechanical Pressure
Tuneless Pressure Technology: Ditch the risky tuning. We utilize TransGo’s patent-pending Tuneless Technology to mirror throttle position and torque demand without alerting the ECU or triggering "limp-in" mode.
30% Pressure Increase: By utilizing a re-calibrated pressure regulator spring and a matching triple valve body separator plate, we boost the OEM max line pressure from
160 psi to 210 psi. This massive increase in clamping force happens mechanically, eliminating the need for software pressure tuning.
Progressive Performance: Internally balanced calibrations provide progressive clutch apply pressure across the entire throttle span, delivering increased holding capacity and shorter, cleaner shifts.
Component Upgrades: We replace the failure-prone factory accumulator plate, install a self-cleaning low/reverse switch valve, install a Solenoid Switch Valve to restore bore health (to prevent P0871 codes), and finish it with a brand new OEM solenoid pack.
Billet Accumulators replace the factory plastic ones preventing leakage and burned up clutches. Finally, the valve body is flat sanded and tested on our in-house Valve Body Dyno.

Optional Upgrades: the following upgrades are optional, but are available if you're looking for even better reliability and power-holding:
- Billet Input Shaft: a high-strength billet steel input shaft that resists breakage under high power and heavy towing loads.
- Billet Flex Plate: strongly recommended if your truck is pushing beyond 600 crankshaft horsepower.
- Bypass upgrade: deletes the stock thermal control valve to improve fluid flow through your transmission for better cooling.
- Mishimoto Cooler Kit: adds a secondary transmission cooler to your truck to further improve cooling during heavy towing and racing applications. Available for 2007.5-2009, 2010-2012, 2013-2014, and 2015-2018 Ram models.
Tuning Notes:
- CRITICAL WARNING: In order for this transmission to shift smoothly and last, you must not have increased transmission line pressures in your tune. Factory tuning for a RAM runs at 60-160psi. Our Tuneless Valve Body mechanically raises this to 210psi.
- This transmission is intended for the enthusiast who has factory transmission tuning.
- Having transmission tuning that also commands higher line pressure will cause this transmission to shift aggressively hard and will cause transmission failure.
- Your tuner is able to stretch out gears for higher shift points, and it is recommended to do so.
- The lock-up strategy should not be tampered with or adjusted in any way, as this will result in harsh shifting and potentially broken shafts.
Recommended gearing: the following gearing is recommended for the following tire sizes, and is required for Tier One to honor your warranty:
- 35" Tire: 4.10 gears or higher
- 37" Tire: 4.30 gears or higher
- +38" Tire: 4.56 gears or higher
Transmission Break-in: in order to maintain your warranty, this transmission requires a 300-mile break-in and a 100-mile relearn. Please check out

Core charge: this transmission includes a $2500.00 core charge that will be refunded once Tier One receives your stock transmission, inspects it, and finds it acceptable condition. The core charge can be waived if you send in or drop off your stock transmission ahead of time. You
will not receive a core charge back if you did not pay it up front. If you drop off your core ahead of time you will be charged for any hard parts that are required to build your core.
