Tier One's built 68RFEs feature upgraded components and custom modifications by Tier One's expert transmission techs which allow them to handle more power than stock, fix common 68RFE issues, and give you improved reliability.

The 68RFE suffers from reliability issues at stock power levels, and we generally don't recommend taking it too far above factory levels. That being said, a lot of folks do run with 68RFEs while tuned, but it can be a bit of a dice roll.

The 68RFE is pretty notorious for having issues. Some of the most common problems are valve body cross-leaks, burnt overdrive clutches, broken 4C spring retainers, torque converter failure, pump failures, broken sprags, and overheating issues.

Tier One uses our own valve bodies that are flat-sanded and dyno-tested to ensure excellent functionality and to prevent cross-leaks and other failures. On higher-stage 68RFE transmissions, we use performance clutch packs and even billet clutch drums to keep our built 68RFE transmissions from destroying their clutches under load or when making extra power. All of 68RFE transmissions get a billet 4C spring retainer to prevent failures of the retainer and the 4C piston. All of 68RFE pumps are flat-sanded and carefully inspected prior to installation. Tier One uses aftermarket torque converters, and even billet multi-disc converters on higher-stage 68RFE transmissions. To help prevent sprag failures, Tier One uses rollerized or billet rollerized low/reverse sprags on Stage 2 and higher transmissions. To help fix some overheating issues, we here at Tier One use a deep cast aluminum transmission pan with increased fluid capacity that helps keep the transmission running cooler.

Tier One offers several different power levels from our HD Tow 68RFE transmission that;s designed for towing at stock or near-stock power to our Competition All-Out 68RFE transmission that can handle +1000 horsepower.

Our most popular transmission is our Stage 2 68RFE Transmissions. The Stage 2 can handle 750 horsepower, which makes it able to handle turbo upgrades, exhaust kits, and pretty aggressive tuning as well as pretty heavy towing without suffering from common stock 68RFE failures.
