Built 68RFE Transmission for Ram 2500 & 3500 Trucks looking to make some extra power in tough applications
The stock 68RFE helping to power your 2007.5-2018 6.7L Cummins-equipped Ram 2500 or Ram 3500 isn't exactly known for its reliability at factory power levels, much less when you turn up the horsepower and torque with even the most mild Ram Cummins tuning and bolt-on parts. Tier One's Stage 1 68RFE transmission can handle the increased power levels from mild to moderate performance tunes, bolt-on performance parts, and even single uprated stock-replacement turbos. Tier One's Stage 1 68RFE transmission can hold a maximum of 600 horsepower, which gives you plenty of room to add some power to your awesome 6.7L Ram Cummins 2500 or 3500. The Tier One Stage 1 68RFE built transmission can handle heavy towing, aggressive on-road driving, tough off-roading, and even mild drag racing and dyno builds. Each of these built Ram Cummins transmissions feature upgraded and overhauled internals that help fix some of the common issues with the stock 68RFE transmissions, while at the same time allowing your 6.7L Cummins to make more horsepower and torque. The Stage 1 68RFE transmission also includes a deeper transmission pan to help improve cooling for better reliability and temperature control when you're towing and hauling heavy.
Comes with a Billet Twin-Disc Torque Converter, Deep Transmission Pan, High-Pressure Valve Body, Performance Rebuild Kit, Billet 4C Retainer, and New Hardware
We here at Tier One have decades of combined experience when it comes to building 68RFE transmissions, and each of our Stage 1 68RFE built transmissions are manufactured from the ground up for exceptional reliability and performance. All of the Stage 1 68RFE transmissions here at Tier One start as OEM 68RFE cores that are thoroughly cleaned and inspected for damage before being used as a basis for our Stage 1 transmission builds. Starting at the front of the transmission, we include a new billet, twin-disc torque converter that's much stronger than the factory torque converter, while its two discs provide more surface area for power-holding. The included deep transmission pan holds more transmission fluid than stock, which allows for more effective heat exchange and cooler running temperatures than the stock pans. Each Stage 1 transmission is fitted with a Tier One high-pressure valve body that more effectively routes transmission fluid when under sustained load than the stock valve body. Tier One also includes a billet 4C spring retainer with every Stage 1 Transmission to help prevent gear walk-out and premature failures when you stack on the power. Each Stage 1 68RFE transmission also includes a performance rebuild kit with new clutch packs, as well additional overdrive clutch packs to shore up your transmissions shifting at the edge of its power levels. We throw in new OEM solenoids and line sensors to ensure proper transmission function. The Stage 1 transmissions are topped off with new gaskets and seals before being air-checked for leaks.
Fully Overhauled 68FRE Transmission for Excellent Reliability
During our build of your 68RFE Stage 1 transmission, we here at Tier One go over every millimeter of its internal components to guarantee excellent function and reliability. All parts are disassembled and cleaned from our OEM cores to ensure your new 68RFE transmission is free from contaminants and other debris. We carefully inspect your transmission's planetary gear train for damage before fully speccing all bearings and washers for endplay. The original transmission pump is flat-sanded, checked for proper clearances, and vacuum-tested. The valve body is likewise flat-sanded and its solenoids thoroughly inspected for better than OEM function, and we replace the OEM accumulator plate to avoid potential codes and issues down the road. Each transmission is also fitted with a TIG-welded planetary pinions. The performance rebuild kit includes new Borg Warner clutches, seals, gaskets, and sealing rings to replace all the wearable parts of the transmission before it's installed on your Ram 2500 or Ram 3500.
Thorough Testing of the Valve Body and Entire Transmission Before Shipping
We here at Tier One take pride in every built 68RFE transmission we manufacture for the Ram 6.7L Cummins trucks. To make sure that you get a transmission that's as tough as your truck, Tier One puts both the valve bodies and the entire assembled transmission through rigorous testing to ensure you get the reliability you need for heavy towing and hauling applications with your 6.7L Cummins diesel. Before the assembly of the valve body, it goes through flat-sanding vacuum-testing. All valve body solenoids are carefully tested to ensure flawless operation. After assembly of the valve body, it goes through rigorous dyno-testing to ensure proper fluid flow, line pressures, and solenoid operation. After final assembly of the transmission itself, we put it through a complete air-check to find potential leaks before putting the entire transmission on our in-house transmission dyno to ensure proper operation, performance, and power-holding.

Optional Upgrades: the following upgrades are optional, but are available if you’re looking for even better reliability and power-holding:
- Billet flex plate: high-strength flexplate made from CNC machined billet steel that’s more durable than the factory flexplate.
- Billet input shaft: a high-strength 300M billet steel input shaft that handles big power and hard, fast shifting.
- Billet valve body channel plate: high-strength valve body with deep worm tracks that helps flow and prevents overheating.
- Bypass upgrade: deletes the stock thermal control valve to improve fluid flow through your transmission for better cooling.
- Auxiliary Cooler Kit: adds a secondary transmission cooler to your truck to further improve cooling during heavy towing and racing applications.
Tuning Notes:
- This transmission can be ran with factory tuning
- For smooth shifts, please do not use max idle transmission line pressures. Line pressures should increase smoothly with throttle input until 225psi is reached before 1/4 throttle
- We strongly recommend keeping the factory lockup sequence to prevent harsh shifting and broken shafts
- Low/reverse sprag holdout is required on this transmission to prevent major gear train damage
Recommended gearing: the following gearing is recommended for the following tire sizes, and is required for Tier One to honor your warranty:
- 35" Tire: 4.10 gears or higher
- 37" Tire: 4.30 gears or higher
- +38" Tire: 4.56 gears or higher
Transmission Break-in: in order to maintain your warranty, this transmission requires a 300-mile break-in and a 100-mile relearn. Please check out
Tier One's Break-In Procedure & Policy here.
