Built 47RE for 5.9L Cummins Rams Looking to Add Power, Tow Heavy, or Rip Off-Road on Big Tires
The 5.9L Cummins powering your 1996-1999 Ram 2500 or 3500 can make a ton of extra power and torque with even the most basic of tuning and bolt-on power-adders, but the stock Chrysler 47RE transmission won't be happy about it. Tier One's Stage 2 47RE Transmission was specifically designed to handle mild to moderate 5.9L Cummins tuning, as well as heavy towing and tough off-road use without letting you down. Each Stage 2 47RE transmission can handle up to 450 horsepower, allowing you to use preloaded tunes and bolt-on performance parts to hit higher levels of horsepower and torque than the stock 47RE transmissions can handle. The Stage 2 47RE transmission from Tier One can also handle heavy towing applications, off-road crawling and mud-bogging, and milder levels of competition use at the local sled pull. On top of being able to handle more horsepower, Tier One's Stage 2 47RE Transmissions come with parts and components that address key problem areas in the 47RE transmissions so that your Ram 2500 or 3500 gets reliable operation, no matter how hard your push it on the street or out in the dirt. This complete 47RE transmission drops right into place of the stock transmission without the need for any tuning or other permanent modifications.
Features a Range of Billet 47RE Transmission Parts that Increase Strength, Power-Holding, and Reliability
We here at Tier One build each of our Stage 2 47RE Transmissions using high-quality components that won't let you our your Cummins Ram down when you need it most. Starting outside of the transmission, Tier One includes a billet flex plate and billet single-disc torque converter that hold more power than stock and are more resistant to warping and burn-up under load from extra power or during heavy towing. The second gear band of the stock 47REs is a notable weak point in the stock 47RE transmissions, and to address it, we include a billet 2nd gear band strut, billet 2nd gear band anchor, and a billet 4.2 lever that all work together to prevent the 2nd gear band from warping under load and get enough leverage to shift properly. Each Stage 2 47RE transmission comes with a billet 2nd gear servo that includes Viton sealing rings instead of steel to both help prevent leaks and give the transmission extra strength and reliability. The Stage 2 47RE comes standard with a Tier One high-pressure valve body that can handle higher line pressures than stock to ensure transmission fluid is being fed throughout the Stage 2 47RE under high levels of load. Tier One includes both a heavy-duty governor solenoid and a heavy-duty transducer to replace the weak factory versions to improve reliability. Each Stage 2 comes with a deep transmission pan with increased fluid capacity over stock to help keep the transmission cool. We include a Performance Rebuild Kit with each Stage 2 47RE transmission that includes 6 overdrive clutches and 6 direct clutches, as well as corresponding hardware and seals. The Stage 2 transmission is topped off with new seals and gaskets before being air-checked for potential leaks.
Fully Overhauled 47RE Transmission for Excellent Reliability
During our build of your 47RE Stage 2 transmission, we here at Tier One go over every millimeter of its internal components to guarantee excellent function and reliability. All parts are disassembled and cleaned from our OEM cores to ensure your new 47RE transmission is free from contaminants and other debris. We carefully inspect your transmission’s planetary gear train for damage before fully speccing all bearings and washers for endplay. The original transmission pump gets a cut stator, and is then checked for proper clearances. The valve body is likewise flat-sanded and its solenoids thoroughly inspected for better than OEM function. The performance rebuild kit includes new Borg Warner clutches, seals, gaskets, and sealing rings to replace all the wearable parts of the transmission before it’s installed on your Ram 2500 or Ram 3500.
Thorough Testing of the Valve Body and Entire Transmission Before Shipping
We here at Tier One take pride in every built 47RE transmission we manufacture for the Ram 5.9L Cummins trucks. To make sure that you get a transmission that’s as tough as your truck, Tier One puts both the valve bodies and the entire assembled transmission through rigorous testing to ensure you get the reliability you need for heavy towing and hauling applications with your 5.9L Cummins diesel. Once the valve body has been assembled, it’s air-checked for leaks before being put on our in-house valve body dyno to ensure proper fluid flow and pressure management. After final assembly of the transmission itself, we put it through a complete air-check to find potential leaks before putting the entire transmission on our in-house transmission dyno to ensure proper operation, performance, and power-holding.

Recommended gearing: the following gearing is recommended for the following tire sizes, and is required for Tier One to honor your warranty:
- 35" Tire: 3.73 gears or higher
- 37" Tire: 4.10 gears or higher
- +38" Tire: 4.56 gears or higher
