Built 47RE Transmission Designed Specifically for High-Powered Competition 5.9L Cummins Builds Throwing Down Insane Power
If you're building a 1996-1999 Ram 2500 or 3500 5.9L Cummins that's destined to absolutely roast its competition at the drag strip or hit ludicrous levels of horsepower and torque on the dyno, then you're going to need a true 47RE competition transmission that can handle whatever you're going to throw at it. The Tier One Competition All-Out 47RE Transmission can handle over 1000 horsepower (even we aren't sure of its limits), letting you stack ridiculously big compound turbochargers, hugely oversized fuel injectors, water-meth or high-shot nitrous systems, custom exhaust setups, and extremely aggressive 5.9L Cummins tuning without your transmission letting you down. The Tier One 47RE Competition Transmission features high-strength internal and external transmission components that replace any potential weak points found in the stock 47RE, so that you can put together a hugely powerful 5.9L Cummins motor with a transmission that can actually handle all that horsepower and torque.
Features an Array of High-Strength Billet and Oversized Transmission Components that can Handle Over 1000 Horsepower Ram Builds
The Tier Competition 47RE Transmission is a completely overhauled 47RE that comes with almost entirely new, high-strength transmission parts and components that can handle as much horsepower and torque as your mighty 5.9L Cummins Ram can make. Tier One includes a SunCoast Billet Triple-Disc torque converter with 35 splines that's paired with an oversized 35-spline billet input shaft that work together to hold a ton more power than the stock converter and shaft. The Competition 47RE transmission also includes a billet steel flex plate that resists cracking and warping at extremely high levels of power. For increased internal strength, Tier One starts with a TCS billet intermediate shaft and a billet 23-spline output shaft that can be upgraded to a billet 29-spline output shaft to further handle the rotational forces from big-time horsepower. The Competition 47RE transmission comes with all the hardware you need to replace the failure-prone 2nd gear band components of the stock 47RE, including a billet 2nd gear band, billet 2nd gear band strut, billet 2nd gear band anchor, billet 4.2 lever, and billet 2nd gear servo that all help prevent 2nd gear band failures and prevent leaks under the massive forces found in racing builds. The Competition 47RE transmission comes with Tier One High-Pressure Valve body that's capable of handling high line pressures, and we offer an upgrade to a fully manual valve body to give you control of your shifts for drag racing at additional cost. Each Competition 47RE also includes a billet Belleville Spring and billet rear servo for extra strength and durability. Tier One includes ring gears with TiG welding for improved strength, with an option for rollerized planetary gears for even better strength and power-holding. All of our Stage 4 47RE builds is upgraded with a 6-pinion rear planetary gear set from 48RE transmissions that can handle higher loads than the stock 47RE rear planets. PTFE coated thrust washers and also included to help prevent thrust washer failures when under load. The Competition 47RE transmission comes with a 3-bolt sprag that has increased durability over the stock sprag. To further improve durability while under extreme load levels, the Competition 47RE transmission comes with a billet forward piston, billet direct drum and billet direct piston, and a billet forward clutch retainer. In order to provide enough clamping force under extreme loads, Tier one includes 7 direct clutches with a custom clutch plate, 6 overdrive clutches with a custom clutch plate, and 5 forward clutches. The 47RE Competition Transmission comes with a deep transmission pan that holds more fluid than stock to help provide additional cooling. Each transmission receives a performance rebuild kit with new clutches, hardware, and seals to run at its best. The 47RE Competition Transmission is topped off with new gaskets and seals before being air-checked for potential leaks.
Fully Overhauled 47RE Transmission for Excellent Reliability
During our build of your 47RE Competition transmission, we here at Tier One go over every millimeter of its internal components to guarantee excellent function and reliability. All parts are disassembled and cleaned from our OEM cores to ensure your new 47RE transmission is free from contaminants and other debris. We carefully inspect your transmission’s planetary gear train for damage before fully speccing all bearings and washers for endplay. The original transmission pump gets a cut stator, and is then checked for proper clearances. The valve body is likewise flat-sanded and its solenoids thoroughly inspected for better than OEM function. The performance rebuild kit includes new Borg Warner clutches, seals, gaskets, and sealing rings to replace all the wearable parts of the transmission before it’s installed on your Ram 2500 or Ram 3500.
Thorough Testing of the Valve Body and Entire Transmission Before Shipping
We here at Tier One take pride in every built 47RE transmission we manufacture for the Ram 5.9L Cummins trucks. To make sure that you get a transmission that’s as tough as your truck, Tier One puts both the valve bodies and the entire assembled transmission through rigorous testing to ensure you get the reliability you need for heavy towing and hauling applications with your 5.9L Cummins diesel. Once the valve body has been assembled, it’s air-checked for leaks before being put on our in-house valve body dyno to ensure proper fluid flow and pressure management. After final assembly of the transmission itself, we put it through a complete air-check to find potential leaks before putting the entire transmission on our in-house transmission dyno to ensure proper operation, performance, and power-holding.

For 1996-1999 Ram 5.9L Cummins only: this transmission will only fit 1996-1999 Ram 5.9L Cummins trucks. A
2000-2002 Ram 5.9L Cummins Competition 47RE Transmission is also available. If you have an older Ram truck, please see all of our
47RE and 48RE transmissions.
29-Spline Output Notes: if using the 29-spline output shaft option, 4WD trucks will require a custom 29-spline transfer case input. RWD trucks will require a custom driveshaft, and we strongly recommend using the SunCoast 618 Stubby Kit and heavy-duty driveshaft U-joints and slip yokes to prevent driveshaft or tailshaft failures.
2-Year, Unlimited Mile Warranty: each Tier One built transmission comes backed by a 2-year, unlimited mile warranty. Please see our
Warranty Terms and Conditions here.
Extremely Firm shifting: this transmission shifts extremely firm and quick for racing and competition use. Aftermarket traction bars can help alleviate some of the shifting firmness, but this is a racing transmission, and firm shifting is to be expected.
Recommended gearing: the following gearing is recommended for the following tire sizes, and is required for Tier One to honor your warranty:
- 35" Tire: 3.73 gears or higher
- 37" Tire: 4.10 gears or higher
- +38" Tire: 4.56 gears or higher
Core charge: this transmission includes a $2000.00 core charge that will be refunded upon receipt of your stock transmission. Tier One can also defer your core charge if you create an account our site and save your credit/debit card information. Your card will only be charged if your core is not returned or if there's damage to your core's critical components. For more information on our deferred core charge program, check out our
