Built AS69RC Transmission that can handle More Horsepower and Torque than Stock while Improving Towing Reliability
Your stock AS69RC transmission helping to power your 2019-2024 Ram 6.7L Cummins 3500, 4500, or 5500 may be built a bit heavier-duty to help your HD Ram or dually Ram tow and haul, but it can start to show some weaknesses when you stack on the power from potent 6.7L Cummins tuning and bolt-on performance parts. Tier One's Stage 1 AS69RC Transmission can handle up to 600 horsepower and comes with all the upgrades you need to fix common AS69RC issues to improve your truck's reliability when you're towing, hauling, ripping around town, or tearing it up out in the dirt. The Tier One Stage 1 AS69RC built transmission is perfect for big Ram 6.7L Cummins builds looking to add some power and torque for a do-it-all Ram truck. Each of our Stage 1 AS69RC transmissions is 100% complete and will drop right into place of your Ram's stock AS69RC transmission without any custom modifications or tuning.
Comes with a SunCoast Billet Torque Converter, Sonnax K2 Clutch Hub, High Energy Clutches, Billet PTO Cover, PPE Deep Pan, and Overhaul Kit
Tier One's Stage 1 AS69RC Transmission features a comprehensive list of upgraded transmission hardware to both fix problem areas with the stock AS69RC and let you reliably add more horsepower and torque to your rig. Starting on the outside, Tier One includes a
SunCoast AS69RC Category 1 Billet Stator Torque Converter. The Dodge AS69 transmission has proven to be a workhorse, especially compared to predecessors like the 68RFE and AS68. However, under the most demanding driving situations, the factory converter can begin to show signs of weakness. This is particularly apparent when exposed to higher torque loads during heavy towing, resulting in excessive heat and turbine slip. The included SunCoast AS69 billet torque converter sets out to alleviate those exact problems. Hand-assembled in Ft. Walton Beach, Florida by American workers, this premium converter features a heavy-duty
billet cover and furnace-brazed, TIG-welded fin reinforcement. It not only improves turbine slip with a more efficient billet stator, but also utilizes a dual Torrington thrust bearing design. Furthermore, the internal frictions are upgraded to a higher friction coefficient for better clamping and holding capacity, dramatically dissipating heat over the factory converter clutch. We also add a billet aluminum PTO cover for increased structural rigidity and leak prevention.
Internally, we address the notorious K2 clutch hub failures. The OE, two-piece K2 hub is made from soft, stamped steel that allows the clutch pack to dig into the hub splines, ultimately hanging the clutches up and burning them. While replacement OE hubs are available, they often fail again in as few as 15,000 miles. We eliminate this issue by installing a
Sonnax heavy-duty K2 clutch hub (122572-01). This features a superior, one-piece design crafted from forged steel that is expertly heat-treated for unbeatable durability, and includes an added oil control lip to enhance lube characteristics. To further maximize holding power, we upgrade the K2 from 6 to 7 clutches and the K3 from 5 to 6 clutches, utilizing
High Energy clutches throughout the entire transmission.
The Stage 1 Transmission comes standard with a performance valve body that can handle high line pressures and ensures adequate fluid flow throughout the transmission when under load. Tier One also includes a
PPE Raw Aluminum Deep Transmission Pan with every Stage 1 AS69RC transmission that increases fluid capacity and improves cooling when towing or when under sustained load. Each transmission is topped off with an overhaul kit that includes new seals and gaskets before being air-checked for potential leaks.
Fully Overhauled AS69RC Transmission for Excellent Reliability
During our build of your AS69RC Stage 1 transmission, we here at Tier One go over every millimeter of its internal components to guarantee excellent function and reliability. All parts are disassembled and cleaned from our OEM cores to ensure your new AS69RC transmission is free from contaminants and other debris. We carefully inspect your transmission's planetary gear train for damage before fully speccing all bearings and washers for endplay. The original transmission pump is flat-sanded and then checked for proper clearances. The valve body is likewise flat-sanded and its solenoids thoroughly inspected for better than OEM function, and we replace the OEM accumulator plate to avoid potential codes and issues down the road. The overhaul kit includes new High Energy clutches, seals, gaskets, and sealing rings to replace all the wearable parts of the transmission before it's installed on your Ram.
Deep Dive: The Tier One High-Performance Valve Body
The valve body is the "brain" of your transmission, and it is where the majority of AS69RC failures originate. Stock valve bodies suffer from bore wear, solenoid failure, and cross-leaks that lead to burnt clutches. We don't just clean the valve body; we remanufacture it using
Brand New Solenoids and premium valve kits to restore and exceed factory hydraulic integrity.
1. Correcting Pressure Regulator Instability
The continuous oscillation of the stock pressure regulator valve wears down both the valve and the bore. Once this wear occurs, the valve cannot stroke properly to regulate line pressure, leading to erratic high or low pressure spikes that burn up clutches. We machine the bore and install an oversized pressure regulator valve. This valve features a hardcoat anodized aluminum finish to combat premature wear and an added spring pocket that increases contact area, ensuring stable, OE-spec pressure regulation for the life of the transmission.
2. Eliminating Shift Flares and Burnt Clutches
A common failure point in the AS69RC is the B1/B2 apply control plunger valve sleeve. When the sleeve wears at the B1 location, line pressure exhausts, causing 1-2 and 5-6 shift flares. Wear at the B2 location creates a cross-leak between line pressure and Reverse pressure, causing harsh or delayed engagements. We solve this by installing an upgraded apply control plunger valve kit. This kit utilizes a highly wear-resistant upgraded sleeve and a lengthened plunger engagement to provide better stability, preventing the cross-leaks that destroy your B1 and B2 clutches.
3. Solving Overheating and TCC Codes
Many AS69RC units suffer from chronic overheating and converter slip codes due to wear in the cooler, main converter pressure, and converter relief bores. This wear allows critical fluid to leak, resulting in low cooler feed and poor converter charge. Tier One reconditions these bores and installs oversized cooler, main converter, and converter relief valves. These steel valves use annular grooves to center the valve in the bore, reducing side-load wear and ensuring your torque converter stays locked and your fluid stays cool.
4. Fixing TCC Shudder and Pressure Loss
The secondary pressure regulator plunger valve is responsible for throttle control of the converter charge circuit. As the OE sleeve wears, SLT pressure escapes, compromising the circuit and leading to TCC shudder and codes. We install an upgraded secondary pressure regulator plunger valve kit, featuring a hardcoat anodized aluminum valve and wear-resistant sleeve to restore precise hydraulic control.
5. Accumulator Piston Upgrades
We replace the B1, B2, K1, K2, and K3 accumulator pistons. In stock units, wear at the valve body bore allows apply oil to exhaust, resulting in harsh shifts or slipping flares. Our upgraded piston kit restores the hydraulic clearances, smoothing out the engagement of apply components and preventing shift shock.
Testing & Quality Control
We take pride in every build. During the manufacturing process, all core parts are disassembled and cleaned. We perform all machining in-house, maintaining
.001” runout or less for pistons and backing plates to ensure the top-tier quality you expect with every Tier One product. We carefully inspect the planetary geartrain for damage and spec all bearings and washers. We utilize precision dial gauges to ensure all clutch clearances and end plays are set to a much tighter standard than OEM specifications. After final assembly, the valve body is dyno-tested to verify solenoid function, and the complete transmission is air-checked and spin-tested to guarantee it is ready to dominate the road.
