Built 48RE Transmission that's Ready for the Sled Pull, Drag Strip, or Dyno Day
Your 2003 Ram 5.9L Cummins 2500 or 3500 can make a ton of extra horsepower and torque, and if you're putting together a hyper-aggressive sled pull, drag race, or dyno day monster, you're going to need a transmission that can handle the strain. Tier One's Stage 4 48RE built transmission is specifically manufactured by Tier One's transmission experts to hold a ton of power under extreme conditions so that you can push your 5.9L Cummins to the limit. Each Stage 4 48RE transmission can handle up to 750 horsepower, which allows you to throw big turbos, oversized injectors, exhaust upgrades, extremely powerful Cummins tunes, and other Cummins performance parts onto your Ram 2500 or 3500 without having to give your stock 48RE transmission a second thought. While the power-holding of the Stage 4 is extremely impressive, the Stage 4 also fixes key problems with the stock 48RE transmission so that your Cummins Ram gets reliable operation both on and off the road.
Features a Huge Range of High-Strength Billet Transmission Parts for Ultimate Power-Holding & Reliability
Each Stage 4 48RE transmission for the 2003 Ram 2500 and 3500 Cummins comes standard with a full-range of high-quality and extremely strong external and internal transmission parts to ensure your transmission holds together under extreme levels of power. The Stage 4 48RE transmission comes with a billet triple-disc torque converter from SunCoast that can handle extreme levels of power without warping and burning up. Tier One also includes a billet steel flex plate that's able to hold more power and torque than stock without flexing or cracking. Feeding the transmission power is a Sonnax billet steel input shaft that resists warping and shearing even under extreme levels of load. The second gear band is a well-know weak point in the 48RE transmissions, and Tier One includes all of the hardware you need to prevent a 2nd gear band failure including a billet steel 2nd gear band, billet 2nd gear band strut, and a billet 4.2 2nd gear lever. We also include a billet 2nd gear servo with Viton seals to help prevent leaks and improve reliability over stock. The Stage 4 transmission receives a high-pressure "Race" style valve body that allows for optimal fluid flow at high line pressures, which are required to keep the transmission lubricated at high power levels. Each Stage 4 has a billet aluminum accumulator to help it hold power and replace the unreliable stock, plastic unit. The Stage 4 48RE gets a heavy-duty governor solenoid and transducer to avoid known issues with the stock 48REs. The transmission receives a performance rebuild kit that includes 6 overdrive clutches and 6 direct clutches, as well as their necessary hardware and seals. Tier One throws in a deep transmission pan that holds more fluid than stock to provide improved cooling. The ring gears receive TiG welding to strengthen them against the horsepower strain, as well as Teflon-coated thrust washers. The Stage 4 48RE transmission is topped off with new seals and gaskets before being air-checked for potential leaks.
Fully Overhauled 48RE Transmission for Excellent Reliability
During our build of your 48RE Stage 4 transmission, we here at Tier One go over every millimeter of its internal components to guarantee excellent function and reliability. All parts are disassembled and cleaned from our OEM cores to ensure your new 48RE transmission is free from contaminants and other debris. We carefully inspect your transmission’s planetary gear train for damage before fully speccing all bearings and washers for endplay. The original transmission pump gets a cut stator, and is then checked for proper clearances. The valve body is likewise flat-sanded and its solenoids thoroughly inspected for better than OEM function. The performance rebuild kit includes new Borg Warner clutches, seals, gaskets, and sealing rings to replace all the wearable parts of the transmission before it’s installed on your Ram 2500 or Ram 3500.
Thorough Testing of the Valve Body and Entire Transmission Before Shipping
We here at Tier One take pride in every built 48RE transmission we manufacture for the Ram 5.9L Cummins trucks. To make sure that you get a transmission that’s as tough as your truck, Tier One puts both the valve bodies and the entire assembled transmission through rigorous testing to ensure you get the reliability you need for heavy towing and hauling applications with your 5.9L Cummins diesel. Once the valve body has been assembled, it’s air-checked for leaks before being put on our in-house valve body dyno to ensure proper fluid flow and pressure management. After final assembly of the transmission itself, we put it through a complete air-check to find potential leaks before putting the entire transmission on our in-house transmission dyno to ensure proper operation, performance, and power-holding.
