Built 48RE Transmission for 5.9L Cummins Rams in need of an uprated replacement for stock transmissions
The factory 48RE transmission on your 2003 Ram 5.9L Cummins was never known for its ability to handle extra power or tough towing applications when it was new, much less after all these years on the road. Tier One's Stage 1 48RE Transmission was designed specifically to serve as a baseline replacement for the 48RE, but comes with just enough upgrades to fix some of the common problems on the 48RE transmissions and hold some extra power. The Stage 1 48RE transmission is the perfect choice for stock or near-stock Ram 2500 or 3500 trucks in need of a new transmission, or Ram Cummins builds running basic bolts like cold air intakes and turbo-back kits with extremely mild tuning. Tier One's Stage 1 48RE offers improved reliability and durability over the stock 48RE transmissions so that you can tow, drive around town, and hit those off-road trails with bigger tires without your awesome 5.9L Cummins Ram letting you down. This complete 48RE transmission drops right into place of the factory transmission without the need for any permanent modifications or custom tuning.
Includes new Billet Internal Components and a Complete Overhaul Kit to Solve Issues and Ensure Reliability
The Tier One Stage 1 48RE Transmission for 2003 Ram 5.9L Cummins trucks includes high-quality parts that help improve the overall reliability and durability of your truck's drivetrain. Starting at the outside of the transmission, Tier One includes a billet single-disc torque converter whose case is less prone to cracking and burn-up than the stock torque converter. The Stage 1 transmission also comes with deep transmission pan that increases fluid capacity to improve cooling when towing or under sustained load. Internally, the Stage 1 comes with a billet aluminum accumulator that replaces the failure-prone OEM plastic accumulator to maintain smooth shifting under load. Each Stage 1 48RE transmission comes standard with a both a billet band strut and billet band anchor to help prevent the 2nd gear band from warping and flexing when placed under load. To further assist the 2nd gear band, we include a 4.2 billet band lever that produces more leverage on the 2nd gear band than the stock 3.8 lever, while also being stronger to help prevent failures. The Stage 1 48RE transmission is also fitted with a heavy-duty governor solenoid and and HD transducer kit to replace the weak stock plastic components for improved reliability. Each Stage 1 48RE is built around a high-pressure valve body that optimizes fluid flow and can handle higher line pressures than stock. Each transmission receives a performance rebuild kit that includes 6 overdrive clutches and 6 direct clutches. The Stage 1 48RE is finished off with new gaskets and seals before being air-checked for potential leaks.
Fully Overhauled 48RE Transmission for Excellent Reliability
During our build of your 48RE Stage 1 transmission, we here at Tier One go over every millimeter of its internal components to guarantee excellent function and reliability. All parts are disassembled and cleaned from our OEM cores to ensure your new 48RE transmission is free from contaminants and other debris. We carefully inspect your transmission’s planetary gear train for damage before fully speccing all bearings and washers for endplay. The original transmission pump gets a cut stator, and is then checked for proper clearances. The valve body is likewise flat-sanded and its solenoids thoroughly inspected for better than OEM function. The performance rebuild kit includes new Borg Warner clutches, seals, gaskets, and sealing rings to replace all the wearable parts of the transmission before it’s installed on your Ram 2500 or Ram 3500.
Thorough Testing of the Valve Body and Entire Transmission Before Shipping
We here at Tier One take pride in every built 48RE transmission we manufacture for the Ram 5.9L Cummins trucks. To make sure that you get a transmission that’s as tough as your truck, Tier One puts both the valve bodies and the entire assembled transmission through rigorous testing to ensure you get the reliability you need for heavy towing and hauling applications with your 5.9L Cummins diesel. Once the valve body has been assembled, it’s air-checked for leaks before being put on our in-house valve body dyno to ensure proper fluid flow and pressure management. After final assembly of the transmission itself, we put it through a complete air-check to find potential leaks before putting the entire transmission on our in-house transmission dyno to ensure proper operation, performance, and power-holding.
