If the valve body is the brain of your truck's transmission, the pump is its beating heart. The transmission pump pushing fluid through your Ram's transmission and provides the pressures needed for the valve body to function. Unfortunately, the stock transmission pump has a few flaws that keep it from adequately lubricating your transmission or supplying enough pressure for your truck's valve body. The factory pumps are rarely even flat, and their relatively flimsy construction means that they can warp or burn up under high levels of load. The factory input shaft on your Ram's transmission is able to do its job just fine at stock levels of power, when towing lightly, or if you're using the factory torque converter or most single and twin-disc replacements, but if you're taking your big Ram to the next level, upgrading your input shaft is a good idea. If it's put under enough strain and torsional force, the factory input shaft can spiral out, crack, strip its splines, or even completely break. 2019-2024 Ram 2500 & 3500 6.7L Cummins Transmission Pans
Your Ram's stock transmission pan may be more than adequate when it comes to holding in your truck's transmission fluid in a sufficient quantity to make sure your Ram runs reliably. That being said, that's basically all the factory transmission pan does, and it doesn't even include a drain plug for easy maintenance. The good news is that we here at Tier One have more than a few 2019-2024 Ram 2500 & 3500 6.7L Cummins Transmission Pans available that can help you out. Aftermarket transmission pans not only come with drain plugs that make changing your fluid a whole heck of a lot easier, they also provide improved transmission cooling and lubrication for your truck's transmission. These Dodge Ram transmission pans are made out of cast aluminum which provides improved heat dissipation over the stock stamped steel pan. Aftermarket transmission pans usually feature deep designs that increase their fluid capacity which helps with lubrication, but also aids in cooling since the increased fluid volume takes longer to heat up. Deep transmission pans can shed a surprising amount of heat, which makes them a great upgrade for basically any Ram build. On top of cooling, these pans come with magnetic drain plugs that make it extremely easy to drain and refill your truck's transmission fluid. Our personal favorite transmission pans are the 2007.5-2024 Ram 2500 & 3500 6.7L Cummins PPE 68RFE Raw Aluminum Transmission Pan and the 2013-2024 Ram 3500, 4500, 5500 6.7L Cummins PPE AS69RC Raw Aluminum Transmission Pan. We're pretty big fans of PPE's pans due to them having a large hex fitting for their drain plug which makes it almost impossible to strip, a stout design, and two different NPT ports that make it easy to run temperature sensors.

Outside of running dry or some freak catastrophic event, nothing is worse for your Ram's transmission than heat, and unfortunately, your Ram 6.7L Cummins produces a ton of it. When you're towing heavy, putting down more power, or ripping around aggressively with your tough Ram truck, the transmission is working hard and generating a bunch of heat doing it. Unfortunately, the small size and less-than-optimally efficient design of the factory transmission cooler means that it can struggle to dissipate enough heat to keep your truck's transmission temperatures under control.
