High-Performance Durability for Modified Trucks
The Tier One Stage 2 6R140 Transmission is engineered for 2017-2019 6.7L Powerstroke owners who are pushing their trucks beyond simple bolt-on upgrades. If you are running hot tunes, larger turbos, or just want absolute peace of mind while towing extremely heavy loads, the Stage 2 is the answer. We take the proven foundation of our Stage 1 build—including increased clutch counts and hydraulic improvements—and fortify the geartrain with billet steel components. This transmission is built to handle the immense torque of a tuned 6.7L without the risk of snapping shafts or coning clutch packs, all while maintaining smooth, streetable shift quality.
Technical Deep Dive: Upgraded Clutches & Heat Management
The heart of the Stage 2 build is the increased clutch capacity, designed specifically to keep your truck on the road and out of the shop. We upgrade the Forward Drum to 5 clutches, the Direct Drum to 6 clutches, the Intermediate to 7 clutches (up from 5), and the Overdrive to 9 clutches (up from 7). This massive increase in friction material provides significantly more surface area for the application of the next oncoming gear. More surface area means the transmission can handle heat much better than stock, preventing the glazing and slippage that leads to failure. To make this possible, we machine the pistons and backing plates in-house to strict tolerances, ensuring we can fit these additional frictions into the factory drums without compromising clearance.
Stage 2 Upgrades: Billet Shafts & Pistons
The Stage 2 build addresses the critical weak points that surface when horsepower climbs above the 600 mark. First, we install a Billet Intermediate Shaft. In high-horsepower applications, the stock intermediate shaft is prone to snapping right at the clutch hub where the Overdrive pack sits; our billet upgrade eliminates this risk entirely. Second, we install the Revmax Billet Overdrive Piston Kit. The factory stamped steel piston can flex under high pressure, causing the clutch pack to "cone" or apply unevenly, leading to rapid failure. Our billet aluminum piston is rigid and allows the clutch pack to sit fully flat against the piston face, ensuring even clamping force and significantly longer clutch life.
Precision Billet Piston Torque Converter
We pair this transmission with a Precision Billet Piston Torque Converter designed for ultimate durability. PNH forges a high-strength piston from premium steel and precision-machines it for the torque converter’s lockup clutch. This improves engagement, boosts torque capacity, and enhances durability. To ensure smooth operation, PNH employs advanced computer-controlled balancing equipment to dynamically balance the rotating components, adjusting weight distribution with precision milling and counterweights. Finally, the turbine fins are bonded to the shell using high-temperature furnace brazing, creating durable, heat-resistant joints that optimize fluid flow and handle high torque.
Testing & Quality Control
We take pride in every build. During the manufacturing process, all core parts are disassembled and cleaned. We perform all machining in-house, maintaining **.001” runout or less** for pistons and backing plates to ensure the top-tier quality you expect with every Tier One product. We carefully inspect the planetary geartrain for damage and spec all bearings and washers. We utilize precision dial gauges to ensure all clutch clearances and end plays are set to a much tighter standard than OEM specifications. After final assembly, the valve body is dyno-tested to verify solenoid function, and the complete transmission is air-checked and spin-tested to guarantee it is ready to dominate the road.

Tuning Notes:
- Requires strategy relearn for valve body: The specific code for the strategy relearn is provided on your invoice. This is critical for proper operation.
- Must have factory transmission tuning: This transmission is designed to run on the OEM transmission tuning files.
- Clear KAM: The Keep Alive Memory (KAM) needs to be cleared when installing this transmission to reset adaptive learning tables.
Optional Upgrades:
Recommended gearing: the following gearing is recommended for the following tire sizes, and is required for Tier One to honor your warranty:
- 35" Tire: 3.73 gears or higher
- 37" Tire: 4.10 gears or higher
- +38" Tire: 4.30 gears or higher
Transmission Break-in: in order to maintain your warranty, this transmission requires a 300-mile break-in and a 100-mile relearn. Please check out

Core charge: this transmission includes a $2500.00 core charge that will be refunded once Tier One receives your stock transmission, inspects it, and finds it acceptable condition. The core charge can be waived if you send in or drop off your stock transmission ahead of time. You
will not receive a core charge back if you did not pay it up front. If you drop off your core ahead of time you will be charged for any hard parts that are required to build your core.
