The 2015-2016 6.7L Powerstroke saw a bump in power from the factory, which puts even more stress on the stock 6R140 transmission. If you are towing heavy loads, the stock unit can struggle to keep up. The Tier One HD Towing 6R140 transmission is the solution. Engineered specifically for truck owners who tow heavy loads, this transmission combines high-strength internals with key hydraulic updates. It fixes common issues found in the stock unit—like converter shudder and pump leaks—allowing you to haul your toy haulers, campers, and equipment without the fear of your transmission letting you down.
Technical Deep Dive: Reinforced Shafts & Drums
Reliability starts at the connection between your engine and transmission. We replace the stock converter with a Precision 6R140 Torque Converter (6 Stud) that provides vastly improved lockup holding capacity and efficiency. We then address the input shaft, a major weak point in stock units. The factory uses a friction weld to connect the hub to the input shaft, which can snap under load. We reinforce this by TIG Welding the Input Shaft to the Hub, creating a bond that won't fail. Inside the case, we utilize a Modified Intermediate Drum that eliminates the failure-prone roller bearing that often destroys the geartrain in stock units. To ensure the transmission holds power, we install a complete 6R140 Banner Kit (15-19 Spec) and Steel Module (15-19 Spec) with fresh friction elements.
Hydraulic Reliability: Performance Valve Body & Pump Upgrades
The brain of your transmission is the valve body, and it is often the source of the 6R140's biggest headaches. We take a 6R140 OEM Performance Valve Body and perform a comprehensive overhaul to target the root causes of common complaints. We modify the valve body to seal critical pressure circuits, preventing cross-leaks and pressure loss. By installing upgraded end plugs and improving accumulator sealing, we prevent future wear and ensure your transmission maintains high line pressure for firm, crisp shifts for the long haul. Additionally, we install an Upgraded Pump Bearing with Teflon Seal to prevent common pump leaks, and top it all off with a Cast Aluminum Deep Pan (Raw) to increase fluid capacity and case rigidity.
Testing & Quality Control
We take pride in every build. During the manufacturing process, all core parts are disassembled and cleaned. We perform all machining in-house, maintaining **.001” runout or less** for pistons and backing plates to ensure the top-tier quality you expect with every Tier One product. We carefully inspect the planetary geartrain for damage and spec all bearings and washers. We utilize precision dial gauges to ensure all clutch clearances and end plays are set to a much tighter standard than OEM specifications. After final assembly, the valve body is dyno-tested to verify solenoid function, and the complete transmission is air-checked and spin-tested to guarantee it is ready to dominate the road.

- Requires strategy relearn for valve body: The specific code for the strategy relearn is provided on your invoice. This is critical for proper operation.
- Must have factory transmission tuning: This transmission is designed to run on the OEM transmission tuning files.
- Clear KAM: The Keep Alive Memory (KAM) needs to be cleared when installing this transmission to reset adaptive learning tables.

Recommended gearing: the following gearing is recommended for the following tire sizes, and is required for Tier One to honor your warranty:
- 35" Tire: 3.73 gears or higher
- 37" Tire: 4.10 gears or higher
- +38" Tire: 4.30 gears or higher
Transmission Break-in: in order to maintain your warranty, this transmission requires a 300-mile break-in and a 100-mile relearn. Please check out

Core charge: this transmission includes a $2500.00 core charge that will be refunded once Tier One receives your stock transmission, inspects it, and finds it acceptable condition. The core charge can be waived if you send in or drop off your stock transmission ahead of time. You
will not receive a core charge back if you did not pay it up front. If you drop off your core ahead of time you will be charged for any hard parts that are required to build your core.
